Thomsen and Camso Win First AMA Championship Snow Bike Race of Season
AMA Championship Snow Bike Race

Round 1 – 2017 AMA Championship Snow Bike Series
Minneapolis, Minnesota, December 18th, 2017

Round one of the 2017 AMA Championship Snow Bike Series faced some serious challenges, mostly extreme cold, with starting line temps hovering in the negative digits. The extreme cold kept rider and spectator counts low and caused a number of mechanical issues including blown air forks and track derailments. However, the race ran smooth and fast with no injuries and racing was tight, fast and furious. This was a historic moment as it was sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). They have now officially recognized snow bikes as a segment of the motorcycling community of activities, and Sunday’s event was the first sanctioned event in the 94-year history of the AMA to run without wheels.

ERX Motorpark played host to two days of racing, with the qualifying event for the snow bike X Games running on Saturday, and round one of the AMA Championship Series running on Sunday. Saturday’s race was demanding and dinged a number of riders, both physically and mechanically, leaving them unable to compete on day two but those who showed up to race Sunday morning included some really fast men and women.

Cody Thomsen from Nisswa, Minnesota, had a stellar weekend, romping to an easy heat race win and then winning the men’s A Main, handing brand-new snow bike kit manufacturer, Camso their first national-level win and proving that their kits work at the pro level on the track. Defending National Snow Bike, and former GNCC champ, Jimmy Jarrett rode strong and smooth as usual on a KTM equipped Timbersled to take second setting up what will no doubt be another nail biting season in the march to the series title.

Washington’s Rory Sullivan looked smooth and solid as he won the B Main on a Timbersledequipped 450 Honda, and South Dakota’s Shayna Lier rode very strong to win the women’s class and take 5th in the B Main.

The series partners are: Nitro Lubricants, Moto Trax, Camso, Arctiva Clothing, Fox Suspension, Snomoto.com, Timbersled, CMX, Cyclops, Pro-Moto Billet, Snow Tech MX, HMK, Rekluse, and Excel Fabrication, and Fresh Moto who create the custom event trophies for each event.
